Those who have grown up in Denver or surrounding areas have come to know an artistic light that is ceaselessly evolving. Those of you that moved from out of state, well, I could take a few guesses as to why you did. Denver is an eclectic city full of creativity and inspiration all in conjunction with an immensely involved music culture. There’s certainly always something to look forward to, a new and exciting experience is always just around the corner. One upcoming attraction has drawn mostly excitement from The Mile High City while also earning its fair share of doubts, if not down-right criticism. Of course, I’m talking about the arrival of Meow Wolf’s newest installation to their growing universe, ‘The Convergence Station’, located off Denver’s infamous Colfax Avenue and opening this Saturday, September 17th.

As of March 29th, the state of Colorado announced its plan for all residents to gain access to the Corona-19 vaccine. Even before that, many venues and promotion companies have found avenues to host live music in safe and profitable ways. Party Guru Productions, for example, brought a novel, “vertical concert experience” to Denver by means of indoor atrium style balconies at a Double Tree hotel. Festivals are beginning to make their comeback. We at SV Media are even hosting an event on April 15th at Lakewood’s Roller City [info for that event here]! For the most part, people are getting that feeling that music is back. All of these reasons make the news from Sonic Bloom this week pretty tough to receive. The team announced via their extensive newsletter, that their 2021 event which has been in question, will indeed be pushed back to 2022.

The ultimate irony of the Omega Mart parody of corporate consumption, acknowledged by the creative team themselves, is that they are now a corporation beholden to capitalism and all the perils of the marketplace. Their inner workings now more resemble those of an amusement park chain than a local art collective. Born and raised in Miami, Florida Mr. Seff found his way out to Colorado about eight years ago and credits the innovative spirit that can be found here as a major influence and motivator in his pursuits. When I asked how he felt Denver has contributed to his visionary endeavors he replied “There are lots of creative, talented, supportive people here that consistently remind us that it’s possible for crazy ideas to work. On that some note, it pumped me full of drugs and encouraged all of my more profitable, reliable opportunities to move on without me. I don’t know what the diplomatic answer is.”
