As the costs and responsibilities multiply and the pressure grows exponentially, it’s fair to wonder how Meow Wolf will maintain their core creative magic. The ultimate irony of the Omega Mart parody of corporate consumption, acknowledged by the creative team themselves, is that they are now a corporation beholden to capitalism and all the perils of the marketplace. Their inner workings now more resemble those of an amusement park chain than a local art collective. Will they be able to sell enough tickets and novelty merchandise to keep the wheel turning without sacrificing the unique soul that got them where they are today? Those questions won’t be answered opening week.

Today we are getting one of the first looks in an all-access, VIP tour through the new installation, which consists of 4 giant themed areas or “anchor spaces.” The space is compiled with various artistic projects spread across 60 unique environments including rooms, portals, and other spaces. Omega Mart is made up of 250 unique projects in total, with installations and contributions from over 325 artists and collaborators local to Vegas, Santa Fe, and around the world.
