As the costs and responsibilities multiply and the pressure grows exponentially, it’s fair to wonder how Meow Wolf will maintain their core creative magic. The ultimate irony of the Omega Mart parody of corporate consumption, acknowledged by the creative team themselves, is that they are now a corporation beholden to capitalism and all the perils of the marketplace. Their inner workings now more resemble those of an amusement park chain than a local art collective. Will they be able to sell enough tickets and novelty merchandise to keep the wheel turning without sacrificing the unique soul that got them where they are today? Those questions won’t be answered opening week.

Today we are getting one of the first looks in an all-access, VIP tour through the new installation, which consists of 4 giant themed areas or “anchor spaces.” The space is compiled with various artistic projects spread across 60 unique environments including rooms, portals, and other spaces. Omega Mart is made up of 250 unique projects in total, with installations and contributions from over 325 artists and collaborators local to Vegas, Santa Fe, and around the world. Born and raised in Miami, Florida Mr. Seff found his way out to Colorado about eight years ago and credits the innovative spirit that can be found here as a major influence and motivator in his pursuits. When I asked how he felt Denver has contributed to his visionary endeavors he replied “There are lots of creative, talented, supportive people here that consistently remind us that it’s possible for crazy ideas to work. On that some note, it pumped me full of drugs and encouraged all of my more profitable, reliable opportunities to move on without me. I don’t know what the diplomatic answer is.”

When asked, what makes Sonic Sessions unique, Peterson told us, “I leverage my background in modern music production to bring these tones to life. Although these tones are responsible for things like pain management, I believe the emotional connection to music is an essential component to the project. An emotional connection encourages vulnerability, letting our walls down while keeping the brain trained on the moment, creating space and presence for ourselves. I like to think of it like low frequencies are the physical side of this therapy, whereas the musical side nourishes the soul and entertains the mind.”

Ballroom & The Other Side in Denver, CO struggled to come up with ways of staying afloat while engaging our lifelong patrons. Knowing that Colorado hosts an abundance of uber-talented graphic designers, we launched a design contest with cash prizes for new Cervantes’ merchandise designs. We wanted to engage the local artist community and find out what Cervantes’ means to them and see how they would translate that into their own artwork.

Colorado Live Events Industry to Participate in #WeMakeEvents #RedAlertRESTART On Tuesday, September 1st, 2020

Denver, CO – On September 1st, 2020 from 9 PM – 12 AM MT, venues, buildings, structures, and residences across Colorado will be lit in red as part of #WeMakeEvents, #RedAlertRESTART, and #ExtendPUA’s national call to action, imploring the US Congress to pass the RESTART Act (S.3814) as quickly as possible. The RESTART Act would offer economic relief to the Live Events Industry, which has been shuttered since March, 2020, putting millions of people out of work. Additionally, the movement is to support ExtendPUA.org in their efforts towards continuation and extension of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance to provide relief to those without work due to COVID-19.
