Re:Visit - Shooka And Friends Got The Year Started Off Right!

In true Denver fashion, Euphonic Conceptions came out swinging with their first Re:Search after the holiday break, only it wasn’t on a Wednesday, and it didn’t feel like what we’ve come to expect from our favorite regular weekday night out. It was better. It was only the 2nd day of the New Year, but it had been over two weeks since EC’s community staple event. Preceding the last month or more, the team at Euphonic had been promoting more than just some minor changes to take place in 2020. On Jan 2nd we saw our first Re:Search Thursday, and albeit the day after New Years, Denverites were out and after it and eager to help headliner, Shooka, celebrate his birthday.

Shooka took the stage looking ready to party. A short jaunt over to his Instagram page and you can see the transformation that happened the day of this set. With a new haircut and his friends in tow, everything about this night was just feeling… fresh. If you don’t know, Shooka is very good friends with live electronic hero, Griz. And if you somehow don’t know, Griz is very well known for making surprise appearances around Denver. And as you probably by now already do know, Griz was not present at this particular event, contrary to the rumors and chatter online before so and what we’ve come to expect when we see Shooka’s name hit the marquis. I bring it up not because I, or anyone, was disappointed, but because it felt sort of in tune with the progression of the Re:Search event, this individual artist, and I guess Denver’s music scene in general. The birthday boy was not without any special guests, you see, but instead brought out rising stars MZG, and “boy-wonder” Jack LNDN who partied on stage with him the entire time. And by party, I mean play music, and by play music, I mean rock the freaking house!

MZG consists of brothers Zachary and Charles Weinert who came into the scene in 2014 but have found themselves picking up steam the last year or two. Their bio describes them as “natural and infectious” which might make one think their bio was written based on this particular show. The energy was off the charts and throw in Jack LNDN, what can I say it was a party, man. Jack comes to us by way of England, of course, but seems to have found himself a nice home here in Denver. He’s been riding a wave of tour dates and music releases and he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The four of these guys on stage together made for one hell of a showcase and we think the photos more than demonstrate that. Check em' out.

The night was, of course, not without weekly resident and likely 007, Mikey Thunder, who did what he does best in matching sound, vibes, and styles of the evening’s featured performers. He’s a DJ at its truest form, and we encourage you to support anything you see his name on, including his new project; The Sinister Swing Syndicate. Mikey teams up with fellow Re:Search resident, Jordan Polovina, for this new project. Jordan was also present for Shooka’s b-day bonanza, laying down some of his uniquely impressive bars and did I mention Casual Commander? Sunsquabi front-man, Kevin Donohue, has a side project and you should probably know about it. With Casual Commander, you get that same Squabi vibe/sound we’ve all come to know and love, but it has enough of a twist to be different. Strangely, I can’t really describe that difference, but it’s different, and worth checking out. If nothing else, it’s a true testament to his individuality as an artist. The guy just loves to make music and he’s gonna do it however he can. It’s great to see such a senior and long-standing artist in this particular scene, provide support for lesser-known but equally amazing artists, as well as friends. I mean, the guy has headlined Red Rocks and he opened for Shooka. Think about that. This might be the greatest example I can think of to describe exactly what it is that Denver has become. It’s special, and stop telling your out of state friends about it.

What else can I tell you about the night? City Boy Lasers, boy oh boy are we happy to have that guy around. Each and every week my mind is blown by the quality of the laser show put on. Another testament to what EC has culminated in this event. Some of those other changes EC has been promoting lately, entailed more than just a new day of the week. Some of the biggest names in the industry have already been announced for the upcoming months and that’s on top of promised visuals from crowd favorite, Android Jones, once a month for the near future. Stay tuned as SV Editor, Grace Thomas, will be bringing you more details and behind the scenes info on all of these changes and what else to expect from Euphonic Conceptions in the new year and decade ahead.
