Are you ready? I don’t think you’re ready...in just two weeks Meow Wolf is hosting a one of a kind event right here in Denver. Dark Palace is being described as a “Dance Obscura” where the music, art, 3-D visuals, and live performers are all blurred together to create an enveloping experience. Spanning over three days, Dark Palace is set up in the same fashion as many music festivals. There's an amazing stack of lineups each day and an impressive amount of artistic engineers. If you are familiar with the Meow Wolf Museum in Sante Fe, which I'm sure you are, they take every imaginable step to create a beyond-immersive experience and you can expect nothing less from their upcoming installation/festival this month.

Meow Wolf is well known for its daring artistic achievements and frequently hosts shows at their Sante Fe location, but this will be their first big show hosted outside of New Mexico. So this is going to be an exciting weekend of firsts for everyone involved. The lineup has recruited some big names in the biz, as well as a handful of local artists. Friday includes names such as Steve Darko, J. Worra, Guy Gerber and Claude Vonstroke. Claude Vonstroke is a notable house and techno DJ who will be the first big headliner of the weekend. Saturday will be a big day for some of Denver’s favorite artists, many of whom have been covered closely by SharedViews in the past. Just to name a few, Mikey Thunder, Mass Relay, LYFTD, Megan Hamilton and Late Night Radio. Shlohmo is one of Saturday’s headliners and is a personal favorite of mine, as well as a trance icon among producers. CharlestheFirst is also among the Saturday lineup and will likely garner some of the biggest amount of attention from the bass-happy Denver crowd. Finally, Sunday will bring us to a head with acts including Krystal Klear, Lauren Lane, Of The Trees, and Dirt Monkey. The full lineup can be found at the Dark Palace official website and you can get to know all of the artist a little better at this bio page the Meow Wolf team has set up for your convenience.

As I mentioned before, Meow Wolf’s vision for Dark Palace is to incorporate as much intricate and colorful art engagement as possibly imaginable. A huge array of artists are scheduled to be at the event throughout the weekend. Many of the installations will be collaborations, such as Psychopomps. As they describe themselves, Psychopomps is the performance-art version of the Rorschach test. This performance art troupe fits perfectly into the theme of Dark Palace because they represent the ability to be unafraid of dark places by using abstractions to allow shape-shifting and suspended disbelief.

Another fantastical group on the list of artists is the Secret Love Collective, who transform spaces using an array of mixed media. Secret Love Collective illustrates their ambitious goals as, “we hope to engage friends and strangers in questioning the status quo, rigid categories of identity, dominant social structures, and art world hierarchies.” There are many, many more artists and performers that will be at Dark Palace, but you will have to attend to see it all for yourself.

Meow Wolf Denver is set to open in 2021 and Dark Palace is somewhat of a precursor to the museum's grand opening. An ingenious tactic to give people a taste of what’s to come and temporarily satiate everyone’s hunger as they wait for doors to open. Meow Wolf has become a phenomenon across the country, due to its ingenuity and interactive content. People travel to Sante Fe just to walk through the whimsical dimensions throughout the museum, which are constantly interchanging. The goal behind the museum is to support everything oddball by challenging norms, radical inclusion, and investing in the power of creativity. When it was announced that Meow Wolf would be coming to Denver, people flipped with anticipation.

We at SharedViews are dying to get inside and bring you coverage from the weekend, though it won't be any substitute for being there yourself! Dark Palace will take place November 22nd, 23rd and 24th; tickets are undoubtedly selling like hot cakes so get them before they're gone. Be prepared to step into a magical underworld, one that you may never have the chance to come across again.
