Title: ‘Tanglewood’ First Look: A New EP from Of The Trees

SharedViews Editor: Grace Thomas

Tyler Coombs, known by most as the electronic producer Of The Trees, stays steady crushing. 2019 saw him join Space Jesus on the Temple of Noom tour as well as CharlestheFirst on the Ascent tour. He also performed at several big name festivals including Elements Lakewood, The Untz, Sonic Bloom, Big Dub, and Wakaan. He was featured on a stacked lineup for Meow Wolf Dark Palace in Denver this past fall (read our recap here). On top of all that, he was announced as one of Billboard’s dance emerging artists for December 2019 and just got booked for Electric Forest’s 10 year anniversary in 2020! The man is making moves, and it was only a matter of time before we got new music.

Tanglewood, is comprised of five tracks. The EP artwork was done by Magdalena Kaczan. The smooth and sultry single ‘Honeydust,’ which features the beautiful vocals of Kala, was released in mid-November. Having grown up in the Maine wilderness, nature is a prominent theme in Of The Trees’ work and three of the songs on this EP reference it - “Tanglewood”, “Spanish Moss”, and “Starlight Lake (Outro)”. Tyler has been known to go ‘sound hunting’ for his music, in which he goes outside to sample sounds like sticks breaking and water dropping. Another track, “Temptation”, features Supertask of the artist collective Lab Group.

Bass heavy and beautiful, this most recent effort from Of The Trees proves that he is here to stay. If this past year is anything to go by, we will only see more good things from Of The Trees in 2020.
