Re:Search Wednesday went off again this week, with VibeSquaD and MartyParty throwing down deep booty-shaking bass all night long.

Jordan Polovina got the show rolling once again, as the gracious and talented opener we always can anticipate. He brought a mixed bag of vibes with a set of genre-blending bass. His style branded “mercurial breakbeat glitch” was easy to groove to and warmed us up between silent disco sets on the patio that offered even more hype to the night.

His set transitioned right into that of Aaron Holstein’s, VibeSquaD, a long-running local favorite who can’t seem to escape the scene. In the past couple of years, he’s had “farewell” shows for VibeSquaD, signaling the end of the project. Lucky for us, retirement didn’t stick and it’s easy to see why when you look at Holstein’s stage presence: he’s having too much fun up there to ever really give it up. With an original song catalog that rivals Deadmau5 and Bassnectar in sheer density, every VibeSquaD show has a little something different. He’s the kind of artist that can pull you into uncharted waters and he always makes it so fun. Last Wednesday was no different.

MartyParty took the stage with a duo of female dancers that served as his visual accompaniment. They danced almost constantly throughout his hour and a half set, so they definitely deserve some recognition! MartyParty, or Martin Folb, is a character in himself, getting on the mic to encourage more dancing, but in his exotic South African accent none the less. His name is fitting as he brings the party no doubt, using an eclectic and deep-hitting mix of hip-hop beats, experimental bass, trap and more. While every transition wasn’t buttery smooth, there was a little bit of everything and always great floor-rumbling bass.

A third dancer that stuck behind MartyParty for his set turned out to be Minx! Her sound brought a little more in-your-feels softness to close out the night. A little house influence to carry us into Thursday felt just right.

Be sure to catch a very earthy Re:Search next week with Plantrae, MOUR and Volo! Tickets are available here.
