Best Bass In The Biz - Audioculture Brought Some Winter Heat To The Black Box

Anticipating a great night, I headed out to the Black box to see B4lance open up the show. If you missed it, this artist was the #BassBattle winner two weeks ago and it was the bass that certainly won him the battle. I wanted to see if he was doing anything new with his set and see how excited he was. He was opening up for some big names like Badman, Digital D, and Phluxx. My stomach would have been in knots had I been him.

Balance and harmony will always be apart of life‘s quest and from the start of this show we felt that balance and that Harmony. B4lance showed everything he learned from the Bass Battle judges along with all his original and unique ways of making music. Bass was bumping, harmonics were sounding and he had a smile from ear to ear that continued backstage when I talked to him. There was nothing that was going to bring him down. He laid it out and in my opinion, was showing exactly why he was the winner of the Denver Bass Battle (view our coverage from that event here).

Phluxx, our “harmony”, showed off some intricate mixes that were a one-of-a-kind blending of cultural, electronic, and harmonious sound while his dancing stage performer mesmerized the crowd. One hour of continuous mind searching and soul finding beauty. He went above and beyond to bring the set that he gave and the audience ate it up as if they had never been fed before. His dancer changed back and forth from a cultural headdress to tight leather between songs and kept it moving to the beat.

Digital D brought out the trancing voice from a TV show to show you what he is going to bring for the next hour. Coupled with sirens as though you had eight hours to do whatever you wanted one day of the year that anything was on the table. It was a public service announcement like no other. After the announcement was over, your chest, feet, and anything connected to you started the rumble. It was hard-hitting, in your face beat after beat with smooth transitions. We were watching a pro at work this night.

Two from Des Moines, Badman, one from Colorado, Gloom Trench, and a back to back experience like you wouldn’t believe, brought the night to a close. A trifecta of insanely sequenced beats and sounds. This was your last hour of entertainment for the night and it did not disappoint. I talked backstage about the amount of trust to do back to back to back and how long it took them to build that trust with each other. Badman said they’ve been doing it for two years and that it was just a feeling, knowing that they all matched perfectly. Gloom Trench just joined them recently but his beats, style, and rhythm matched up perfectly. You could tell they were having a lot of fun on stage. When one would be performing, one would be dancing and one would be pumping up the crowd. They took turns inserting their own touch into the set. It was an amazing thing to watch. They did not want to stop at the end of the night as you could tell by their expressions and their actions. As the lights turned on at the end of the night, they were still finishing their set and if it weren’t for the venue rules and regulations we could’ve been there till sunrise!

If you haven’t been down to the Black Box, you are missing out. Showing off one of the best sound systems I’ve ever heard and some of the best acts Denver has to offer.

I’ll see you at the next show.
