Get Weird With The Copper Children, Zimma, and More + Full Halloween Costume Contest @ Cervantes Masterpiece This Friday, Nov. 1st.

Denver has developed the reputation as a bit of a… party town. Throw in a party-centric holiday like Halloween and this creative, progressive, and sometimes kinda strange town turns on an even bigger celebration. Chuck said Holiday into the middle of the week and you get what amounts to basically seven full days (or more) of a Mile High, Halloween party. Last weekend brought it’s own share of spooktacular fun and celebration. Sonic Bloom celebrated it’s annual, mid-season mini-fest, Sonic Blossom at Cervantes. The Denver Nuggets opened the season with a win and costume party of their own at NATIV Lounge & Hotel. Gramatik even came to town for two days of frightening fun that only the likes of Gramatik could provide, one day being a rare “Street Bangerz” set at Summit Music Hall and the other being an all-out rage fest with Tom Morello (pun intended) at Red Rocks Amphitheater. More to come on all of that soon, but for now let’s look deeper into how you should spend your upcoming, Halloween weekend pt 2.

Denver’s own, The Copper Children, are promising to bring a little weird and a lot of fun to Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 1st. The five-part, “Psychedelic Gospel" band are fresh off a new album, Speaking In Spirits, and have been patiently awaiting their headline date this weekend, one of Denver’s biggest party weekends of the year. It’s not the first time the band has played a Halloween show as they once celebrated with a set at, “…the Liberty Lodge and it was a freak show” said members of the band whose goal with their unique style of music is to “free” their listeners, if only for a moment.

The Copper Children’s most recent album can be found on most streaming platforms and the band says it’s been more than well received. In fact, they say it’s had a truly positive impact on their fans and followers. When talking about the creation of the new music, what to expect this Friday, and what drives them as a band all together they said, “We do our best to make every experience, together and apart, take us to the next level. Primarily it’s labor and love! It’s always an honor to share the cyclical vibration of music with our fans through dance!”

The psychedelic quintet won’t be the only band to take the stage Friday at Cervs. Giant Talking Robots, Cole Williams, and Aki and The Virtuals will also get us groovin’ and before them you wont want to miss Zimma. He’s got the early set but as he said “is bringing the bay area flavor” and has some special guest surprises up his sleeve to deliver a memorable start to what should be a super fun night. Zimma, or Jake Zimmerman, is from the Oakland area but went to school at the University of Colorado in Boulder and seems to have a musical draw here in Denver. Even though he’s moved back to the Bay Area since college, he’s no stranger to the Denver stage.

“Most of our band is made up of sound engineers and producers. I’ve been working on a lot of hip/hop, rap, and R&B but we are definitely going to bring the styles of some of the differently styles we grew up listening to.” Said Zimmerman when discussing what to expect from him and his band tomorrow. Their show comes to Denver in lead up to the release of a new album they’ve been working on. “It’s going to be called That’s That. I’ve been working on it with three other producers from the band for the last four months. It’s based on experiences that happened to me while in Colorado, while I was in school in Boulder. There’s definitely a lot of relationship songs in here too. Some of it’s just about more simple stuff like having a good day, but there’s a lot of relationship songs. It’s kind of like a ‘moving away from my past album’. That’s why it’s called That’s That.”

Zimmerman has been working side by side with well-known Colorado artist, Lily Fangz. “That’s like my sister!” said Zimmerman. “I met her a long time ago, we’ve always jammed together. Then she started having me on a couple shows, then we moved in together in San Diego and started to put something together. The process is still going but we are working on a three song mini-project (not quite an EP) where we do some reggae and acoustic stuff, plus her singing and rapping. It’s been good. I write the hooks and she lays down the verses. We work well together.” It’s up in the air whether she will step on stage to perform with Zimma, but it sounds like she will indeed be in the building so let’s all hope we get to see some incredible collaboration between the two.

The costume contest will be in full swing tomorrow night and the winners will take home cash money! Don’t burn yourself out tonight, Denver, cause Cervantes is packing a punch for you all tomorrow night. For more info or to RSVP check the official FB page. For tickets, check here.
