For those of you who know me fairly well, you know I have a fondness for the band, Phish. I have spent several years of my life following them around the country and have seen close to 150 shows! Why is this important, you might ask? Well, that’s where the spoken words from this track come from. They are an unreleased narration between Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon performed live only 22 times. That said, I can’t credit anyone in the band for writing the lyrics as Anastasio states that the lyrics were written by God.

The creation of this track was rather simple. I started with a sine wave sampled at 7.83 beats per second then layered a deep analog sub bass below the vibration. I really wanted the bass to be on the verge of obnoxious. I recall hearing The Glitch Mob perform at set break from the soundboard at an STS9 show at Red Rocks several years back. I remember thinking it was the deepest, hardest, most suffocating bass I had ever felt. I was going for something like that but fell a little short. From there I added a couple rhythmic loops to give a sort of countdown vibe with a touch of unsettling tension. I then narrated the words spoken by Anastasio and Gordon while pitching my voice down 2 whole steps. Once this was mixed, Chris Write, a Violet Recordings sound engineer who I worked with on this album, suggested we make some passes over the vocal track with the Roland Space Echo. The effect was subtle but very effective.

7.83 beats per second, also known as the Schumann Resonance, plays a part in all three of my album titles. Just as we define syllables as the beats in words much like the beats in music, my album titles are all based off the Schumann Resonance, each one consisting of a seven syllable title. I am aware of a few other artists who also use seven syllables in their album titles but I am unsure of their reasons behind it.

So what is the Schumann Resonance? It’s quite literally the frequency of the earth and we are all in tune with it. Nikola Tesla once said, “Our entire biological system, the brain, and the earth itself work in the same frequencies.” We live in a time of technology, with superficial wavelengths that disrupt the Earth's natural frequency. Wifi, cell phones, and an array of electronics are all part of our everyday lives. This is why our bio-electromagnetic waves are off. We are out of balance from Earth's electromagnetic pulse. The Schumann Resonance is a mediative, healing, re-energizing frequency that can be used to reset your bio-waves. Understanding the idea that there is a beginning and an end is nothing more than a concept seeded into our minds when in fact, we are a constant, continuous, infinite energy, and energy never ends, it transforms. Do you believe in ghosts or angels? Nassim Haramein, world leader in unified field physics states, “Everything emerges and returns to a fundamental field of information that connects us all.” For most of us, the everyday experience is dualistic. There seems to be a separate, subjective ‘me’ who witnesses objects, thoughts, events, and emotions. By means of meditation, we get a glimpse of the true reality of a unified field of consciousness. Everything is one, and everything is many at the very same time, without any contradiction whatsoever.

Another one of my favorite quotes from Tesla says, “If you wish to understand the universe, think of energy, frequency and vibration.”

Finally I’ll leave you with this: Music is measured in beats per minute; therefore, the Schumann Resonance at 7 beats per second, equals 420 beats per minute.
