Hey...What were you doing last Thursday? If you weren’t at Cervantes, here’s what went down in the Masterpiece Ballroom incase you missed it.

A day before the show even started Louis Futon, aka Tyler Minford, announced on his Instagram account (@luisfutonbeats) that he would be giving away 4 tickets  along with a special smoke and greet invite. @Broncojohnson was the lucky winner, along with his 3 friends, who got to experience first hand that Minford knows how to show his fans a good time. (Special shout out to Euphonic Conceptions and Denver Kush Club for this one!)

As the show got started for the rest of us, Plaid Hawaii, aka Jason Womp, was the first to take the stage. Womp’s “tropadelic” sound and popular remixes are a surefire way to start a party. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face as I walked into the venue with his unique take on “It Wasn’t Me” blasting through the place. Earlier this year, Womp released a 5 song album called Flora (plant life), which demonstrates that since he began his musical career in late 2014, he’s gotten ahead of the game in the tropical house and the indie dance scene. Womp also played some new songs from his upcoming album, Fauna (animal life), which will be released later this winter. Until then, you can catch Plaid Hawaii next at The Larimer Lounge on January 16th with Ekonovah!

Next up was The Orcastrator, aka Brandon Theis, who was operating as a one-man-show, but let me tell you...he took over the whole stage; displaying his skills on the guitar, talkbox, piano, saxophone, and last, but not least - freestyle rapping. Theis is Brazilian born, Baltimore raised, and Colorado based, describing his style as "future latin/disco/hiphop funk," and we can agree! We caught up with The Orcastrator last year for a one-on-one interview.

Theis really connected with the crowd when he freestyled over Nas’ “Life’s A Bitch”. He then premiered his newest track, “Vibe So Thick” ft. Lucia Sarmiento, to which Theis posted a special thank you after the show to say, “Thanks for getting down to my rhymes Denver 🎷 this Raxophonist thing has really been amazing to come into. Thank you for all the love! More new music on the way!🔥🎹” It was only 3 years ago that he started his journey as a self-taught saxophonist, learning exclusively from YouTube videos, and he is owning it! You can catch The Orcastrator next at Neon Baby Denver on December 28th for a Jazzy Disco and saxy-good time.

It was then time for Louis Futon (Tyler Minford) to take the stage with his live band, consisting of Hailey Niswanger (saxophone/flute), Ariel Shrumpet (trumpet), and Jawann Blanchey (drums). Minford began as a bedroom producer in Philadelphia and he has since gained a large following for his singles and remixes that blend hip hop, R&B, and soul styles together, as well as his ongoing unofficial flips of popular mainstream tracks. Minford’s headlining Winter Tour 2019 is in support of his debut album, Way Back When, which was released earlier this year and includes features from artists like NoMBe, DUCKWRTH, Ashe, RKCB, and more. We can definitely be expecting even more new music soon!

Also following up his Red Rocks play this summer with GRiZ, Minford seriously brought the heat for this show with not just a live band, but also new merch, new songs, and a big...dare I say...gigantic guest appearance. Minford himself was dominating the keys, guitar, and drums, which he briefly took over Blancheys’s seat to play over Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”. Then just as we were being treated to new material and loving it, Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic was brought out to premier a brand new song, with the other half of Big G, Jeremy Salken, close by showing his support in the crowd. Lalli and Salken also just released their Winter Chill Mix Vol. 6, which you should definitely hit play on.

When Minford and his band left the stage, there was an undeniable standing ovation for what had just gone down...even though the whole crowd was standing and dancing the whole way through. They came back to play not one, but three more songs, voicing their love for the crowd that night. One more tour date in Phoenix followed this show and now Minford is back in his L.A. studio putting the final touches on all of his new music, so be on the lookout and definitely don’t miss his next show near you!

Local music producer HU, aka Hunter Long, took the stage for a late set of his self declared genre, “glitch-hop don’t stop”, which seems especially fitting for a late:30 set if you ask me! As the packed crowd slowly made their way out of the venue, dancers and hula hoops began to appear, enjoying the night until the very end.

It was one hell of a night at Cervantes.
