Catch Up With Bass Physics Before His Denver Throw Down w/ Cofresi And Megan Hamilton This Saturday
Denver is never short of exciting shows coming down the pipeline, but some tend to stand out more than others. To me, Bass Physics, Cofresi, and Megan Hamilton this Saturday represent such a show. I was excited as soon as I saw the three names on the same flyer a couple of months ago. The insanely talented, drumming machine known as Cofresi has been high on my list since I saw him in New Orleans a couple of years ago. I’ve always wanted to see him in Denver. Megan Hamilton rounded out my top 3 favorite sets at Sonic Bloom this year. And as for Bass Physics, y’all probably already know what’s exciting about Bass Physics, but in case you don’t keep reading cause we caught up with him about what he’s been working on, ways he thinks we can all help save the world, and exactly why his manager told us to expect an, “incredibly immersive, over-the-top experience” this Saturday with Rubikz Visuals and 303 Lasers both on the ticket.
It all starts with a new single, made in collaboration with Cofresi himself and it comes out tomorrow! I wanted to know how the single, “Limitless” came to be. “Ben (Cofresi) and I made it with no real intention which was cool cause it was just trying to mesh our two sounds together while also telling a story,” said BP, or Arja Adair. “I think it was a great way to highlight what I’m trying to do with a more lead guitar sound on top of the future bass and melodics.” He went on to tell us to expect a lot more of his guitar at the show this Saturday, as well as a live rendition of their new single. On top of the elaborate drumming from Cofresi, Colby Buckler (of Emancipator Ensemble) will accompany BP on stage, guaranteeing us some real firepower for the night. The track is a doozy and certainly highlights each of the artists' sounds and in such a clean and tasteful way. You can hear the new track on all available streaming platforms tonight at midnight!
Having done “a ton of shows” with Cofresi, including a ton on the east coast and recently even here in CO at Frisco’s 10 Mile Music Hall, the two are likely to bring some heat for their fans in Denver this weekend. As for Megan Hamilton, Adair seemed excited to share the stage with the up & comer.
As many acts often do, they’ve recruited some local talent in 303 Lasers and Rubikz Visuals to come in and wow Denver with an over-the-top, “gift to the fans” type of production. As for the music, Adair promised something a little different from his last run here in his home town. Although the hip-hop base, happy feeling undertones will still be present, he told us to prepare for something a little heavier of a sound that still gets the crowd head-banging. He’s excited to show off some new music but is going for something a little heavier. Expect a lot of lead guitar from the man himself, which is another one of the focuses his music has taken on.

When asked to elaborate on the sound of his music these days, Arja told me, “Bass Physics has been on a very long journey since starting in 2012. It started with my buddy Luke from high school and college, where we had a very different sound; much more old school Pretty Lights, electro-soul, a little bit slower just chiller music. Then it kind of morphed into a future-bass sound and now I’m trying to find a single direction to take this project and just hit hard on that sound. I think that sound is… well Bass Physics to me is Bass music, its heavy bass, loud drums, punchy drums, etc. But also the physics part, which is science, which incorporates everything in life. It’s about the contrast to me. Light, dark, good & bad, etc. In music, the conversion is a contrast of sounds that tells a story in my tracks.”
BP’s scientific talk begged one final question from me, in asking Arja his idea on how to get the same number of people who are excited about music, or a show, or a festival, to be excited about the science that goes alongside the magic, or the sustainability efforts behind a festival, or the workshops, etc. Basically, how do we get music fans to be as excited about some of the major problems the world is facing together and the scientific ways to overcome those issues. “Music for people is a relief,” he told me. “On a massive scale, people aren’t going to take action until they have a reason. Everyone claims they are all about saving the world, or encouraging sustainable practices, but those people are still taking hour-long showers, or letting the water run while they brush their teeth. Going to see their favorite artist has turned into an escape from such problems and they aren’t going to take action until the reason is strong enough like there is no more water running in their sink.”
